THE WINSTON PIES STORY

J23A3310.jpg

Each Winston Pie™ is handmade from scratch using only all-natural ingredients. We are a local Los Angeles bakery and source locally and feature organic produce whenever possible.

Winston Pies™ grew out of Brianna's family tradition of baking and her love of sharing delicious baked goods with friends and family.  Growing up in Winston-Salem, NC (or “Winston” as the locals call it), the hot days and slow pace cemented for Abrams what it means to be a baker. Her love for pies comes from the women in her family, including her great grandmother, grandmother, mother and sister, who have always baked together, no matter the occasion. Baking desserts for fun became a passion for pie-making once she moved to Los Angeles after law school. She fell in love with the fresh fruit at the local farmer's markets and soon her weekends were filled with beach air and fresh pies.

Baking out of her home kitchen, she started ButterCrust Pies™ and made pies to order for customers throughout Los Angeles. This little kitchen bakery took off! Not being able to keep up with demand, Brianna opened Winston Pies™ and what began with a single storefront in Brentwood has expanded to West Hollywood and now nationwide via national shipping. After inventing the PieBite®, a 2.5-inch miniature version of a full-size pie, and expanding her offerings in multiple sizes and flavors, Brianna and the team of PieSmiths® pioneered a menu full of delicious year-round pies, seasonal specialties, a rotating “candy bar” line of pies inspired by the candy bars of our youth, and regular vegan and gluten free offerings available daily.

Brianna is living her dream and following her passion to bring high-quality, artisan pie to pie lovers everywhere.

The team of Winston Piesmiths® look forward to welcoming you to one of our stores and sharing with you our southern hospitality and a slice of pie.

A Pie Expert Explains How to Turn Summer Fruit into a Slice of Heaven

Brianna Abrams of Winston Pies in Brentwood walks us through everything from filling to crust

When longtime baker Brianna Abrams left her day job as an attorney to open Winston Pies in Brentwood last year, the North Carolina native knew she had a tradition to uphold. “My great-grandmother was a pie maker, and she passed it down through my grandmother and mother,” she says. “Baking is big a part of our family.”

Of course, creating hundreds of scratch pies each week at her cute, retro shop is another matter entirely, but that doesn’t mean Abrams isn’t hit up by home cooks looking to master the art of what she calls “pie-smithing.”

This Former Attorney Turned Her Passion For Pies Into A Whole New Career, Here's How

Going from being an attorney at a large international law firm to a successful, full-time owner and baker (while being the mother of two young kids!) is no easy feat. In fact, it sounds almost impossible, but that’s the story of Brianna Abrams, CEO, Founder and Chief PieSmith of Winston Pies. Having grown up in North Carolina where Southern hospitality is the cornerstone of day to day life, baking played a huge role in shaping not only who she is as a professional baker, but also as a female entrepreneur.

20 ESSENTIAL BRENTWOOD RESTAURANTS YOU NEED TO TRY

Best Pie

Before lawyer-turned-pie-maker Brianna Abrams opened her San Vicente shop in 2017, no one ever thought “there’s a dearth of good pies in Brentwood.” Now, though, it’s hard to imagine the neighborhood without Abrams’ flaky-to-the-touch butter crusts, which range from full-size to 2.5-inch bites. Her made-from-scratch fruit pies incorporate organic farmers market produce whenever possible, but you’d be remiss not to try classic pecan (North Carolina-raised Abrams knows something about Southern pies) and chocolate cowgirl, an intensely rich mix of caramel and fudgy Ecuadorian chocolate pressed into a salted oatmeal crust.
